One of my favorite parts of this weeks readings was the sections,
Bringing Together Research and Practice. Brice talked about how a big part of making a classroom work is to get the students excited and engaged. I agree whole heartily. At one point he even said how a student who loves to read and write may not do the work if they are not engaged and that is so true. Being excited about class is the only way a student will ever put effort into their work, how could someone put effort into something they don't care about???
I agree with you 110% Jersey. If you cannot make your students excited to be there you’re just going to be pulling teeth the entire time to get anything out of them. I had this one teacher in high school who use to throw candy at kids if they answered a question right. She stopped though when she hit a girl in the eye with snack size Snickers. My point is just changing one little thing can be the difference between failure and success.
ReplyDeleteI had a teacher just like that Farmboy, it really made class a lot more fun and exciting, and encouraged us to read so that we could participate in class! Another teacher did tickets and at the end of the semester we could trade them in for awesome prizes, that was the onyl year I actually paid any attention to science haha
